How might we create a blog for 20-somethings looking for affordable, quality products?
Here are some of the programs I used to bring Ish List to life.
The concept for Ish List came from my love of finding products that had a good balance of form and function. I wanted to create a site where I could share some of the cool products I found with others. Particularly I was interested in reaching people who were in college or just graduating and starting their lives. Since that was my demographic- I looked for quality products that were not too expensive. The site was largely inspired by Uncrate- a men's online catalog, but what I didn't like about Uncrate was that a lot of the products they featured were not actually good quality (I purchased a few things and was sorely disappointed). The second pain point was thatt some of their products were beyond what any reasonable person would or could spend. I decided instead to focus on affordable, quality goods that were practical, yet aesthetically pleasing.
In order to write a blog aboutt good products you have to find good products! Most of the articles I wrote were about products I already owned and really liked. A few were things I wanted or things my friends owned that had been recommended to me. I started by creating a list of products and then divided them into a few categories: Style, Tech, Food/Drink, and Aparment. From there I began writing regular articles to publish along with purchase links and promo images I created in Photoshop.
